When COVID-19 vaccination began in the U.S., 1 in 5 people weren’t sure if they’d get the vaccine. Verywell has been tracking how Americans feel about the vaccine since December, and over time, we’ve learned that the biggest thing that helps tip someone in the direction of getting the shot is knowing someone who already has.
While vaccine hesitancy has since dramatically declined, many people remain concerned about the potential side effects and confused about the whole process. To help demystify the vaccine experience, we’re sharing the stories of people who’ve been there.
We talked to people from all walks of life who received priority for vaccination, whether they were teachers, adults over 65, or healthcare workers on the frontline. They shared everything from reluctance at being the first in line to tips for others navigating an appointment. Each person has a unique perspective about how being vaccinated has impacted their lives and jobs.
Most of the people we spoke with did describe a confusing and jumbled registration process. But they also experienced minimal symptoms and an easy day-of process at their vaccination sites. And they all have one resounding piece of advice for you: Get the vaccine, if you can, when it’s available to you.
